Soundflower software

Apple Soundflower is an open source kernel extension for MacOS, designed to create a virtual audio output device that can also act as an input. Soundflower was developed by Max Schneider and Evan Brooks, two alumni of the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. The idea behind Soundflower was simple: provide a means for audio applications to share audio streams between each other, without the need for complex routing setups.

How do I use Soundflower on my Mac?

The Soundflower is an open source Soundcard interface which enables you to route audio between applications.

Now you have Soundflower installed, launch SoundflowerBed. To use Soundflower with other applications, go to System Preferences then choose Sound. You can choose which device will be your default system output or input through Sound Effects or Outputs respectively under the Hardware section of Sound Preferences.

Under Soundflower (2ch), select the input and output devices you want to use Soundflower with. For example, if you’re using Soundflower to record an application’s audio output, select your computer’s internal microphone as the input device and Soundflower (16ch) as the output device.
